Asian Champions Trophy 2023: India defeat Japan 4-0 to earn second consecutive title

India defeated Japan 4-0 in the finals of the Asian Champions Trophy 2023 to win the title for the second time. Sangita Kumari, Neha, Lalremsiami, and Vandana Katariya scored a goal each to spur their team on to victory. 

The winners received a reward worth Rs 3 lakh while the support staff received an amount worth Rs 1.5 lakh. 

They were criticised harshly for their semifinal exit in the Asian Games, but have improved and impressed thoroughly in the subsequent tournament, with the winner’s award to show for it.

India overcame their rivals China in the group stage earlier in the tournament, who went home with the bronze medal.

Deepika received the fan choice award for the best goal of the Asian Champions Trophy 2023 while Akio Tanaka of Japan received the best goalkeeper award even though they came up short in the final against India. 

Finally, Salima Tete of India received the player of the tournament award, while India captain Savita Punia was recognised as the leader of the tournament in the presentation ceremony. She saved three penalty corners in succession, further cementing her claim to the award with a heroic display.
