If you’ve been scratching your head wondering why Arijit Singh’s songs keep releasing even after he announced his retirement from playback singing, you’re not alone. Millions of fans had the same question — and now the man himself has answered it.

In a candid post on X (formerly Twitter), Arijit addressed the confusion with characteristic simplicity: there are simply too many unfinished songs that he committed to before stepping away, and they’re going to keep coming out — through all of 2026, and possibly into 2027 as well.

What Arijit Singh Actually Said?

Taking to social media, he explained that while he has stopped accepting new assignments, a long backlog of pending recordings remains. He acknowledged that completing and delivering these tracks is an ongoing obligation he intends to honour fully. He also signed off with a surprisingly personal piece of advice to fans about digital wellbeing and finding peace — which, in its own quiet way, said a lot about where this artist’s head is right now.

This is not a man changing his mind. This is a man closing his books — one song at a time.

From Melody to Filmmaking — What Comes Next

Arijit’s retirement from playback singing doesn’t mean silence — far from it. It marks a bold pivot toward filmmaking. His directorial debut will be a jungle adventure film featuring his own son and Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s daughter Shora in lead roles, with Nawazuddin himself appearing in a cameo. The script has been co-written by Arijit and his wife Koel Singh, signalling this is as personal a project as it gets.

The plan is to first take the film through major international film festivals before a pan-India theatrical release — a decidedly artful approach for someone who has spent decades working within mainstream Bollywood.
