The La Liga title race is almost down to only two candidates after Real Madrid drew 0-0 against Real Betis last night. Neither team were able to break the deadlock in the 90, and both shared a point each on the day.
Betis earned a valuable point to put themselves in the sixth, and in contention for a Europa League spot. However, the more significant business occurred higher up the table. Madrid will be seeing the draw as two points lost rather than a point earned since they aim to defend their title.Â
Los Blancos now have 71 points from 33 games while Barcelona, due to their 2-1 victory against Villareal, are level on points with their Clasico rivals and with a game in hand, which means three more points to play for.
Atletico Madrid have 73 points from 32 games, which could go up to 76 if they win their game against Bilbao. While nothing can be called for sure in football, every point is valuable when in a title race so tight and unless either of Atletico or Barcelona lose or draw in their upcoming games, Real will be dealt with a significant disadvantage in their quest.
Moreover, they also have the Champions League to worry about, and will be facing Chelsea in the semi finals which promises a reunion between the Blues and their club legend, Eden Hazard.
Injuries have not done Zidane any favours either, and he will have to find a way around the obstacle to try and guide Madrid to a 35th La Liga title this season.
