The next stage of Apple’s gradual transition to USB-C will see the introduction of charging cases in 2023. All of the AirPods models that have been released so far will be compatible with these accessories, making it less cumbersome for users to carry about a separate Lightning cable even though you still need it to charge your iPhone.

The bad news about USB-C charging cases is that, according Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the AirPods Pro 2 may not come with the same accessory. Customers will be glad to hear that Apple has new charging cases on the way so they won’t need to carry around an extra cable, but the details he has provided in his tweet are a little confusing.

Apple has so far discontinued the first generation of the non-Pro AirPods and has instead introduced four different AirPods models, including the more pricey AirPods Pro. Customers shouldn’t have any issue finding a USB-C charging case that charges both the first- and second-generation AirPods because they have the same design.

This forecast is perplexing because Kuo did not specify whether Apple will sell the USB-C charging cases separately or if they would come with a new set of AirPods.

He does mention that the AirPods Pro 2 might come with a Lightning case, but he didn’t mention whether Apple would soon offer a USB-C charging cover for that specific model.

Apple may improve the appeal of its separate cases by including a larger battery, extending the number of charges that wireless earbuds can receive from the companion device. The issue of cost is also present. There must be some unique advantage other than the ability to plug in a cable that can also be used to charge other USB-C devices if Apple costs consumers a little bit more for one of them.
