Apple restricts Facebook update that called out Apple Store’s 30% cut

After the Fortnite issue, more people come to know about Apple and Google’s 30% cut policy. Any application listed on the Apple and Google app store has to release this percentage on any in-app purchase.

A recent Facebook update allows users to purchase tickets of online events directly from the organizer. Apple said all the payments should be done through the app store’s payment system, giving the platform a 30% cut. Facebook asked Apple not to take this fee so that the entire revenue could go to the event authority. Unfortunately, Apple denied doing so.

Though the feature on Facebook is available now on iOS, the line “Apple takes 30% of this purchase” is removed. For Android, it was expected to display “Facebook doesn’t take a fee from this purchase.” As per Reuters, this message is not visible either.

Facebook told to Reuters in a statement, “Now more than ever, we should have the option to help people understand where money they intend for small businesses actually goes,” It added, “Unfortunately Apple rejected our transparency notice around their 30-percent tax but we are still working to make that information available inside the app experience.”

It’s very much clear that Apple blocked the notice. It’s too strict to the apps mentioning about the App store policies. Netflix, Kindle, and Spotify are some of the examples that face this.
