Apple reportedly planning to build cheaper AirPods Max with a plastic design

Yesterday, we reported how Apple might launch a number of products this year including AirTags and Augmented Reality. You can read about that here. Apple is trying to return back strongly as the world is still trying to fight against the pandemic. Last month, Apple launched its first over-the-ear wireless headphones named AirPods Max. Currently, this AirPods Max is priced at $549. Now, a new report is suggesting that Apple may expand its portfolio of AirPods. You can refer to the tweet below.

The “cheap” AirPods Max are still a thing.
However, I haven’t got a date for it, what I can tell you is that they are working on them, price will be 349 and they will be made out of plastic.

This new variant might be much cheaper than the previously launched headphone. It will be a ‘Sport’ edition of the AirPods Max. Reports suggest that the price of this variant can be around $350 which is considerably lower than $549. To add a view, AirPods Max was priced at Rs 59,900 in India.

This might be because of the few changes which will be made in the new headphones as compared to the previous one launched in December 2020. We might not see machine-textured anodized aluminum ear cups and stainless steel headband. Rather than that, headphones might come in a plastic build. Due to the plastic design, the piece might weigh a bit lighter than the previous model. This can add a huge value to the customers. Even though there is no confirmation, but we can expect the new model to come with an Active Noise Cancellation feature, spatial audio, and Transparency Mode. It might also come with 20-hour battery life.

At a price of around $350, it will provide direct competition to other headphones like Sony WH-1000XM4 and the Bose QuietComfort 35 II. There’s no definite time frame in which we can see this headphone hit the market but the main question is can this new headphone help Apple to get more market share and thrive in the headphone segment?
