A few days ago, Apple released its latest iOS 14 with a plethora of features. While iPhone and iPad got the latest OS update, MacBook users are still waiting for their goodies to arrive.

Well, Apple has greeted its anxious users with a piece of good news. The latest version of the Safari browser has been released for macOS Catalina and High Sierra.

The latest update comes with tons of new features and customization options. Apple has improved the browser’s tabs and has included a new privacy report feature. Users get new customization options for their start page.

The major key improvement released by Apple is the improved tab management for the browser. The tabs have been redesigned while being more space-efficient. They now display the website favicons by default and offer a preview of each tab on mouse hover.

Another key improvement is the new start page customization option. Users can add their backgrounds and links. Also, the privacy report feature highlights any cross-site trackers that the browser is blocking.

Users running macOS Catalina or macOS Mojave can now update to Safari 14. Some new features however will require macOS Big Sur to run. This includes support for 4K HDR video, and browsers built-in translation feature.

Here is a list of features introduced in Safari 14

  • Added Safari Web Extensions support for macOS.
  • Added Webpage Translation (Beta) for English, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, French, German, Russian, and Brazilian Portuguese. Safari will automatically detect if a translation is available based on your Preferred Languages list.
  • Added support for HTTP/3.

  • Added a Privacy Report that shows the trackers that Intelligent Tracking Prevention prevented from accessing identifying information.

  • Authentication and Passwords
  • Added a Web Authentication platform authenticator using Face ID or Touch ID, depending on which capability is present.
  • Added support for PIN entry and account selection on external Web Authentication security keys.
