For the purpose of expanding its AI team, Bloomberg reports that Apple earlier this year acquired DarwinAI, a Canadian startup. Smaller and more effective AI systems were the main goals of DarwinAI, which also developed AI technology for component inspection during manufacturing.

The buzzword in the tech industry right now is “generative AI.” Apple has not made any announcements, despite well-known companies like Microsoft, Google, Samsung, and others improving and releasing their own AI solutions. There is currently a sense that Apple is lagging behind in AI. The only statement made by Apple was that in 2024, CEO Tim Cook predicted the business would pioneer new advances in generative AI.

There are rumors that Apple is prioritizing on-device AI capabilities over cloud-based functionality. It makes logical to do this. A key component of Apple’s brand language and image is its regard for user privacy. DarwinAI can greatly assist Apple in its efforts because it is recognized for producing smaller and faster AI systems.

According to the article, Apple’s in-house AI team has gained twelve new members, including Alexander Wong, an AI researcher who contributed to the development of the startup’s AI technology.

Notably, Apple’s AI group now employs AI researcher Alexander Wong, a major contributor to DarwinAI’s development, as a group director.

In keeping with its usual reaction to concerns about acquisitions, Apple has recognized the acquisition and stated that it sometimes buys smaller technological companies without disclosing its precise plans or objectives.

Apple will need to incorporate generative AI into a number of products in order to compete with Microsoft’s Bing, OpenAI’s ChatGPT, and other generative AI solutions. Apple is purportedly exploring extensive language models and bringing AI capabilities to Messages, Apple Music, Siri, Shortcuts, and other apps.
