Anuj Sachdeva’s Unwavering Journey: From TV Heartthrob to OTT Thrillers and a Recent Stand Against Violence

In a shocking incident that has dominated headlines across Mumbai, actor Anuj Sachdeva was recently subjected to a brutal physical and verbal assault by a fellow resident in his Goregaon housing complex. The confrontation, which Sachdeva documented and shared on social media, reportedly escalated from a simple dispute over parking and the presence of his dog, ‘Simba’.

The footage, which shows a visibly bruised Sachdeva recounting the attack, highlights the precarious nature of public life and the unexpected violence that can flare up in urban residential settings. He stated he was “bleeding from my head” and posted the evidence before the attacker could “do any damage to me or my property,” bringing widespread attention to the issue and sparking a conversation about community conflict resolution.

From ‘Dhruv Tara’ to ‘Chhal Kapat’: The Latest in Sachdeva’s Professional Sphere

While dealing with personal upheaval, Sachdeva’s professional life continues on a strong trajectory, having recently transitioned from television’s leading man to a key player in the burgeoning digital space. His last major television outing saw him take on dual roles as Maan Singh and Kapali in the fantastical time-travel series, Dhruv Tara – Samay Sadi Ki Misaal, showcasing his versatility on Sony SAB.

More recently, the actor has been garnering attention for his role in the ZEE5 mystery thriller, Chhal Kapat – The Deception, which premiered in June 2025. The series, where he shared screen space with actors like Shriya Pilgaonkar, has been gradually gaining momentum, proving that strong content can triumph over limited initial promotion. Looking ahead, the actor is set to broaden his reach even further with a lined-up Netflix film featuring Konkona Sensharma and an upcoming JioHotstar series titled Mistry.

The Journey from Television Star to OTT Contender

Anuj Sachdeva’s nearly two-decade-long career has been marked by strategic shifts, starting from reality television and evolving into a mainstay of Hindi serials before his current foray into films and web series. His enduring presence in the industry is a testament to his adaptability and commitment to the craft.

Early Career and Television Mainstay

His entry into the entertainment world began on the highly popular reality show MTV Roadies (Season 3) in 2005. This early exposure quickly led to a formal acting debut with a cameo in the 2007 film Delhii Heights. However, it was television that truly cemented his fame.

• Sabki Laadli Bebo: He rose to prominence as Amrit, the male protagonist, in this popular Star Plus drama (2009–2011).
• Phir Subah Hogi: Sachdeva took on the lead role of Thakur Aditya Singh on Zee TV, a character known for his feisty attitude.
• Swaragini – Jodein Rishton Ke Sur: He later became well-known for playing Sahil Sengupta in the Colors TV show (2015–2016).
• Reality TV Return: In 2019, he showcased his dancing skills by participating in the reality dance show Nach Baliye 9 alongside his former partner, Urvashi Dholakia.

Expanding Horizons: Film and Web Series

While dominating the television landscape, Sachdeva also actively pursued opportunities in cinema and the digital domain. He starred in Punjabi films such as Haani (2013) and Police in Pollywood (2014), broadening his creative scope across regional cinema. His Hindi filmography includes a supporting role in the critically acclaimed children’s drama Hawaa Hawaai (2014) and the romantic comedy Love Shagun (2016).

On the web, he was part of the 2018 Amazon Prime series Breathe, further demonstrating his capability to deliver nuanced performances across different formats, a quality that is now leading to major announcements like the upcoming Netflix collaboration.

Beyond the Camera: Advocate, Designer, and Critic

Away from the arc lights, the actor maintains a multi-faceted life. Before acting, he was a qualified shoe designer, having worked with his father in the family’s shoe manufacturing business. His father’s insistence is what ultimately prompted him to pursue modelling and acting, which included enrolling in a method acting course at the prestigious Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York.

He is also a vocal advocate for animal welfare, showcasing a deep passion for stray and Indian-breed dogs, often promoting adoption and responsible pet care, a point underscored by the recent incident involving his dog, Simba.

Furthermore, Sachdeva has not shied away from commenting on the industry’s evolving ecosystem, particularly the shift on OTT platforms. He recently expressed concern over “VIP culture” and how casting decisions are increasingly influenced by social media follower counts rather than genuine talent, a barrier he continues to actively push against as he awaits more character-driven, complex roles.
