Antony delivers bold interview about Ajax future as €90m bid rejected

The Antony to Manchester United transfer saga continues to drag on, with Ajax rejecting a €90 million bid for the player. The Dutch side had rejected an €80 million offer for the player, and wanted more from the Premier League club.

A sum worth €100 million was being rumoured as the next bid, but United have gone below that amount. And as a result, they have had their offer rejected.

Antony speaks out on club future

Speaking to Fabrizio Romano, the Brazilian winger revealed that he made his desire to leave Ajax in the summer clear.

“Since February of this year, my agents came to Amsterdam to inform Ajax of my desire to leave the club to face a new challenge and that some interested clubs would arrive and with them, certainly a great offer.”

“In June of this year, I interrupted my vacation and came personally to inform the managers of Ajax, including new coach, about my wish to leave and that they should consider this possibility, because it was a project for 2 seasons”.

“During the window months, meetings continued and I also received a proposal from Ajax for contract renewal. I made it clear once again…

I WANT TO LEAVE”.

“Today, in a meeting with the club, I expressed my old interest in leaving – this time with a considerable offer on the table. Others had already arrived! Ajax refused with the argument that they only have 5 days to replace me”.

“I’m not asking Ajax to release me, I’m asking Ajax to sell me with the highest bid ever for an Eredivisie player. I’ve been insisting on this theme since February so that the club could rebuild the team with peace of mind”.

Antony has reiterated that he is appreciative of the support that Ajax fans have shown him. However, he wants to try a new challenge. And for him, Manchester United is the place where he wants to be. It now remains to be seen whether Manchester United will launch another bid for Antony or try to sign Cody Gakpo from PSV.
