Ana de Armas Stuns in the ‘Ballerina’ Trailer: A Thrilling Expansion of the John Wick Universe

The recently released Ballerina Trailer has created immense excitement among fans of the John Wick universe. Slated to hit theaters on June 6, 2025, Ballerina promises to be a high-octane revenge thriller, led by Ana de Armas in the titular role.

The movie, which serves as a spinoff to the popular John Wick series, introduces de Armas as Eve Macarro, a Ruska Roma-trained ballerina turned assassin, embarking on a violent journey to avenge her family. The Ballerina Trailer teases intense action, an emotional storyline, and a much-anticipated crossover with the franchise’s lead assassin, John Wick.

Revenge and Redemption: A New Storyline Unfolds

The Ballerina Trailer introduces viewers to Eve Macarro, a skilled ballerina whose life takes a dark turn when her family is brutally murdered by hitmen. Trained in both ballet and combat by the Ruska Roma crime syndicate, Eve embarks on a mission to hunt down those responsible for her loss. This revenge-driven storyline is set between the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and John Wick: Chapter 4, providing a deeper exploration of a character who made a brief appearance in the third Wick installment, originally portrayed by Unity Phelan.

The trailer showcases Eve’s transformation from a graceful ballerina to a lethal assassin, a journey filled with bloodshed, vengeance, and retribution. One of the most striking moments in the Ballerina Trailer features Eve using an ice skate as a weapon to slit an enemy’s throat, a brutal reminder of the film’s unflinching action sequences. Another highlight sees Eve dousing a flamethrower with a high-powered hose, solidifying her status as a force to be reckoned with in the assassin world

Ana de Armas Meets John Wick: A Long-Awaited Crossover

The Ballerina Trailer offers a tantalizing glimpse into Eve’s meeting with none other than John Wick himself, played by Keanu Reeves. Fans of the franchise will be thrilled to know that Wick’s appearance is not just a cameo but a significant part of the film’s plot. As writer Shay Hatten confirmed, John Wick plays a “real character” in Ballerina, adding more depth and intrigue to the story.

The trailer hints at an intense and potentially game-changing interaction between Eve and Wick. Will they join forces, or will their paths clash? This crossover between the two deadly assassins elevates Ballerina beyond a standalone film, weaving it tightly into the larger John Wick universe. Wick’s involvement also opens the door for more world-building, drawing fans deeper into the lore of the assassin underworld.

A Powerful Ensemble Cast

The Ballerina Trailer also reveals a stellar supporting cast that will keep fans on the edge of their seats. Franchise veterans Ian McShane, Anjelica Huston, and the late Lance Reddick reprise their roles as Winston, The Director, and Charon, respectively. Their presence ensures continuity with the main John Wick series and enriches the storytelling of Ballerina by tying Eve’s journey to the established assassin lore.

In addition to these familiar faces, new characters join the fold. Actors Gabriel Byrne, Catalina Sandino Moreno, and The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus have been cast in pivotal roles, though their characters remain shrouded in mystery for now. Together, this ensemble creates a dynamic mix of old and new, enhancing the film’s depth and expanding the John Wick universe.

A Glimpse Behind the Scenes

Helmed by director Len Wiseman, Ballerina is set to follow in the footsteps of the high-octane action that the John Wick franchise is known for. Wiseman, known for his work on Underworld and Live Free or Die Hard, brings a unique flair to the project. His experience with action-heavy films makes him the perfect choice to capture the intense, visceral combat sequences that fans of the franchise expect.

The script for Ballerina is written by Shay Hatten, who previously co-wrote John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and John Wick: Chapter 4, ensuring the film stays true to the universe’s tone and style. Hatten’s collaboration with Derek Kolstad, the creator of the John Wick characters, ensures that Ballerina blends seamlessly into the overarching narrative while also standing on its own as a compelling revenge thriller.

Producers Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, and Chad Stahelski—who directed all four John Wick films—serve as producers on the project, further ensuring that Ballerina lives up to the high standards set by its predecessors.

Building on the Legacy of John Wick

The Ballerina Trailer makes it clear that this spinoff is not just an extension of the John Wick franchise but a bold new chapter in its own right. Following the unprecedented success of John Wick: Chapter 4, which grossed over $440 million worldwide, Ballerina comes at a time when fans are craving more stories from this deadly world of assassins. The recent prequel miniseries The Continental also expanded the universe, paving the way for Ballerina to take center stage.

With Ana de Armas leading the charge, Ballerina promises a fresh perspective on the assassin world, combining the elegance of ballet with the ruthless intensity of combat. The film builds on the rich lore of the John Wick series while introducing new characters, conflicts, and action sequences that will keep audiences captivated.

A Promising Addition to the John Wick Universe

As the release date approaches, the Ballerina Trailer has left fans eager for more. With its gripping revenge narrative, breathtaking action scenes, and a star-studded cast, Ballerina is set to be a worthy addition to the John Wick franchise. Ana de Armas shines as a fierce and formidable assassin, and with the return of Keanu Reeves as John Wick, the stakes have never been higher.

The Ballerina Trailer has only scratched the surface of what promises to be a high-stakes, adrenaline-filled journey of vengeance and redemption. June 2025 can’t come soon enough.
