AMD Ryzen 7 7840S powering Lenovo Yoga Air appears in new benchmark

The Ryzen 7 7840S Phoenix APU, which has a 30W TDP and is an exclusive addition to the Ryzen 7x40S series, has been unveiled with the Lenovo Yoga Air 14s 2023 Ryzen Edition. The Ryzen 7 7840S CPU, based on the AMD Phoenix architecture, was recently added by Lenovo to the Yoga laptop lineup. After some initial delays, AMD’s 7040 “Phoenix” APU series is now available for portable computing devices.

The laptop has a 14-inch OLED display with 10-point touch that offers a resolution of 29441840 and a peak brightness of 600 units. It has a delta E precision of 1.59 and enables a variable refresh rate of 60/90Hz. It also covers the DPI-P3 color gamut. This monitor and its CPU are aimed at experts and content creators. Depending on usage, battery life can last between 10 and 14 hours, and under extreme load, the CPU can reach temperatures of up to 75°C.

The unique partnership between AMD and Lenovo has produced a special Ryzen 7 7840S eight-core APU with a 30W TDP profile that is suited for the small design of the Yoga Air.

These APUs offer unique power profiles and a typical 30W TDP, just like the Ryzen Z1 CPUs intended for mobile devices. This is considerably less than the 45W TDP of the Ryzen 7 7840HS and 7840H variants.

This AMD APU is only used in the Lenovo Yoga Air 14s 2023 Ryzen Edition. Additionally, a Ryzen 5 7640S 6-core variant is accessible. The 8-core model, which has characteristics similar to the 45W model with a maximum boost frequency of 5.1 GHz for the Zen4-based CPU and 2.7 GHz for the integrated RDNA3 Radeon 780M graphics, is the one that receives the majority of attention in reviews from Chinese media. According to benchmarks, the 45W Ryzen 9 7940HS APU outperforms its 30W cousin by a mere 5%.

Despite having a 15W greater power consumption, the Ryzen 7 7840HS demonstrated a slight 5% performance advantage in a number of media tests, including Cinebench, POV Ray, and the Ludashi benchmark. The 7840S model fills the performance gap between the Ryzen 9 6900HS and the 45W variant.

The Ryzen 7 7840S processor and a 1TB SSD are included in the Lenovo Yoga Air 14s 2023 Ryzen Edition’s base configuration. 16GB of memory costs 7,999 yuan (1,095 USD) while 32GB costs 8,299 yuan (1,140 USD). Sunlight Reflection and Mercury Silver are two of the available hues.
