AMD Ryzen 7 7700X beats Intel Core i7-13700K in Gaming Benchmarks

In leaked benchmarks, AMD’s Ryzen 7 7700X CPU outperformed Intel’s Core i7-13700K and i5-13600K Raptor Lake CPUs in terms of gaming performance. The most recent benchmarks for Intel’s Raptor Lake Core i7-13700K and Core i5-13600K CPUs are from Extreme Player, a publisher of content for Bilibili.

The Core i9-13900K, Core i7-13700K, and Core i5-13600K are just a few of the retail Raptor Lake CPUs that have already been benchmarked by the leaker. Extreme Player put the AMD Ryzen 7 7700X to the test against Intel’s existing 12th Gen and forthcoming 13th Gen CPUs for these most recent benchmarks.

The test computer’s motherboards were an ASRock Z690 Steel Legend WiFi 6E/D5 for the Intel platform and a Gigabyte X670 AORUS Elite AX for the AMD platform. A pair of TeamGroup 16 GB DDR5-6400 CL40 memory modules, which are compatible with both motherboards and DDR5 memory, were used in the tests. The GeForce RTX 3090 Ti Gaming X Trio from MSI was the preferred graphics card. All CPUs were tested using DDR5-5200 profiles during the testing, but the 7700X was also tested using a DDR5-6400 profile.

The AMD Ryzen 7 7700X has eight cores and sixteen threads. The CPU will have a base frequency of 4.5 GHz and a boost clock of 5.4 GHz but with a lower 105W TDP because AMD views this as the sweet spot for gaming (142W PPT). The CPU will receive a 40 MB cache pool, which is made up of 8 MB L2 and 32 MB L3 from the single Zen 4 core and CCD, respectively.

Now, it’s interesting to note that AMD has not yet released an update for the Ryzen 7 7800X processor.

It’s possible that AMD aims to replace that component with a Ryzen 7 5800X3D replacement with Zen 4 cores (3D V-Cache). If so, the CPU lineup will likely be updated later this year since AMD has confirmed that the V-Cache components will debut in the latter half of Q4 2022. The Core i7-12700K and Core i7-13700K are competitors of the $399 US Ryzen 7 7700X.

The Raptor Lake CPU lineup’s fastest 13th-Gen Core i7 chip will be the Intel Core i7-13700K. There are a total of 24 threads and 16 cores on the processor. 8 P-Cores based on the Raptor Cove design and 8 E-Cores based on the Grace Mont core architecture enable this combination. The CPU has a combined 54 MB cache with 30 MB of L3 cache and 24 MB of L2 cache. The chip’s boost clock was 5.40 GHz, and its base clock was 3.4 GHz. The P-Cores’ all-core boost is clocked at 5.3 GHz, while the E-Cores have base and boost speeds of 3.4 GHz and 4.3 GHz, respectively.

In Horizon Zero Dawn, our first gaming comparison, the AMD Ryzen 7 7700X outperforms the Core i7-13700K by 4.5%, the Core i5-13600K by 7.5%, and the Core i5-12600K by 11% at 1080p on average. When using faster DDR5 memory, such as the T-Force kit’s EXPO profile, the lead is further extended.

The second game is Red Dead Redemption 2, where the Ryzen 7 7700X performed similarly to the Core i7-13700K and Core i5-13600K while outperforming the Core i5-12600K by about 10 frames per second at 1080p (avg). In Far Cry 6, the Raptor Lake CPUs slightly outperform the Raptor Lake processors at 1080p, however, the AMD Zen 4 CPU performs better at higher resolutions. Now that we have a look at these benchmarks, the $399 US price tag for the AMD Ryzen 7 7700X doesn’t seem that bad.
