AMD's take on its new RX 6000 Series GPUs based on RDNA 2 architecture

AMD announced three GPUs yesterday and all of them focusing on 4K gaming experience. Although people are more excited about the top end AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT and the Radeon RX 6900 XT, but the entry-level 4K gaming performer also requires attention.

As AMD has targeted directly against NVIDIA’s top-end GPUs – RTX 3090, RTX 3080 and RTX 3070 GPUs. While both AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT and the Radeon RX 6900 XT GPUs lineup against RTX 3090 and RTX 3080 GPUs, the Radeon RX 6800 GPU competes against RTX 3070, however, at a higher price of $579, which is a bit strange.

Both the AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT and RX 6800 will be available on shelves from November 18th onwards while the Big NAVI delayed to December 8th.

The new AMD RDNA 2 architecture is a new foundation for next-generation consoles, PCs, laptops and mobile devices. It helps AMD to deliver up to 2X higher performance and up to 54% higher performance-per-watt compared to AMD RDNA-based graphics cards.

It also includes new AMD Infinity Cache technology that delivers up to 2.4X greater bandwidth-per-watt versus GDDR6-only AMD RDNA-based architectural designs. We already rumour of this tech, and now we will see this into action as well.

The AMD Radeon RX 6800, will feature 60 Compute Units, 4096 Stream Processors. The card will also come with 16GB GDDR6 memory along with a 256-bit memory bus. The clock speeds are lower, with only 1815 MHz for the game clock and 2105 MHz for the boost clock.

The 128MB infinity cache helps to further leverage better 4K gaming performance and being built upon 7nm process; the total board power remains 250W, which is very less compared to the performance it offers.

As we see AMD has compared the Radeon RX 6800 with the last year flagship RTX 2080 Ti and we see huge performance gains. The AMD GPU totally dominates the NVIDIA GPU with some pretty healthy numbers when the new AMD Smart Access Memory feature is used.

The framerates we see are all above 60 FPS that too at 4K and in some games like Forza Horizon 4, the framerates go as much as 134 FPS.

In 1440p gaming too the RX 6800 GPU totally outperforms the RTX 2080 Ti which is a target to NVIDIA’s new RTX 3070. In both 4K and 1440p, we see AMD attaining healthy numbers on paper and which might be the reason why the Red team is asking $80 more than the new RTX 3070.
