More About Upcoming Products from AMD

AMD is expected to announce its next portfolio of products driven by the Zen 5 core architecture, which has already shown up in Ryzen AI 300 “Strix” laptops and forthcoming Ryzen 9000 desktop CPUs. Within the data centers, servers, and laptops, this expansion will cover a large number of market segments. The company is prepping some critical product launches for a handful of thermal-stressed units (TSU), starting with its 5th Gen EPYC “Turin” processors and Instinct MI325X accelerators, slated for October. Possibly Strix Halo APUs and Krackan APUs at or around CES 2025

The Zen 5 core architecture, the successor to Zen 3 on which Ryzen AI Strix laptops and soon-to-be-announced CPUs known as its Ryzen APU stack, Threadripper PRO series, Threadriper non-Pro lineup, and Celeron micro desktop systems are all based. This expansion will encompass the large eventuality of market segments in servers and laptops as well within just data centers.

The 5th Gen EPYC lineup is planned to be two models, a 128-core Zen 5 (4nm) and a follow-up model from the Zen 3-based Milan we are testing today, with up to twice as many cores on each die directly onto existing sockets being derived again in both “Classic” at least for PDV purposes of those clients that still use it.

It will replace the existing MI300X accelerator with up to 288 GB of HBM3E VRAM featuring a bandwidth in excess of 6 TB/s and improved FP16/FP8 compute capabilities as well. The accelerator will be capable of training AI models that are massively larger than those available right now, scaling up to 1 trillion parameters.

For CES 2025, AMD is expected to reveal the Strix Halo and Krackan Point APUs. The Strix Halo will target enthusiasts with up to 16 CPU cores, 40 GPU cores, and a chipset design, while the Krackan Point will cater to mainstream users with a monolithic design featuring up to 8 CPU cores and 8 GPU cores. Overall, AMD’s upcoming releases reflect its continued push into various segments with its Zen 5 architecture, signaling a busy and innovative period ahead.
