Why Bengaluru — and Why Now

Amazon’s choice of Bengaluru isn’t incidental. The city has housed some of Amazon’s earliest technology and business teams in India — and the new campus consolidates that legacy into a purpose-built facility rather than distributed leased floors across the city.

The $35 billion additional investment pledge through 2030 — on top of the $40 billion already deployed — puts Amazon’s total India commitment at $75 billion over its operating history here. That’s not a satellite office strategy. That’s a company treating India as a core market, not an emerging one.

The campus design reinforces the long-term thinking: self-sustaining neighbourhoods with their own breakout zones, event spaces, and sports courts are meant to reduce reasons to leave the building — a model borrowed from Amazon’s Seattle and Austin campuses. Two full floors of cafeterias serving global cuisines signal a workforce expected to spend long hours on-site, not just clock in and out.

On sustainability, the Bengaluru project incorporates responsible materials sourcing, reuse of existing office assets, and high-efficiency building systems — all feeding into Amazon’s net-zero carbon target by 2040 under The Climate Pledge.
