Official: Álvaro Morata Joins CD Leganés on Loan from Como — Returns to Madrid in the Segunda División

One of Spanish football’s most enduring names is heading back to the Spanish capital — but not to the Primera División. Como 1907 have confirmed that Álvaro Morata has joined Leganés on a season-long loan, with an option to buy. The move brings the 33-year-old striker back to Madrid, the city where he was born, raised and first made his name as a footballer.

How the Deal Came Together

Álvaro Morata was reportedly closing in on a loan move to Leganés from Como, with sources close to the Spanish forward confirming that the operation was being negotiated.

Leganés sporting director Andrés Pardo fuelled the talk by addressing Morata directly, making clear the doors were open. Fabrizio Romano subsequently indicated that negotiations between Leganés and Como were continuing to progress, with one of the key hurdles being the striker’s salary, though Leganés were willing to make a significant financial effort and Como could cover part of his wages.

Negotiations accelerated in recent days as Leganés and Como came closer on how to share the Spain international’s salary.

According to Cadena COPE’s El Larguero, Morata’s priority was to live in the Spanish capital — a preference said to be behind his choice of Leganés.
