The wait is finally over — and it was worth every delayed day. Despite speculation about a possible direct-to-digital release, Yash Raj Films has officially confirmed that Alpha will release exclusively in cinemas on July 10, 2026 Deadline — shutting down every OTT rumour with one powerful poster drop. And from the look on Alia Bhatt’s bruised, battle-hardened face in that teaser image, this isn’t your typical Bollywood spy film.

Bollywood’s First Female-Led Spy Film — And It Means Business

Alpha is described as a gritty, globe-trotting espionage thriller that adopts a rugged and raw aesthetic — focusing on a grounded, intense depiction of field intelligence operations rather than stylised slow-mo walks and explosions. The Hollywood Reporter That alone sets it apart from recent franchise entries.

Bobby Deol plays the primary antagonist — a ruthless character who was first glimpsed in the post-credit scene of War 2 (2025), where he tattooed the Alpha insignia on a young girl’s hand, telling her it means “the fast, the fastest, and the strongest.”

Hrithik Roshan is also expected to make a special appearance, reprising his beloved role as Major Kabir Dhaliwal — connecting Alpha firmly to the larger spy universe web. The Hollywood Reporter

YRF reportedly rejected a ₹215 crore OTT offer from Netflix, insisting Alpha deserves to be a full theatrical spectacle. That level of confidence speaks volumes.

Where Does It Fit in the Spy Universe?

According to the YRF Spy Universe Wikipedia page, the franchise launched in 2012 with Ek Tha Tiger and has since delivered blockbusters including Pathaan, War, and War 2 — collectively grossing thousands of crores worldwide. Alpha becomes its first female-led chapter, a landmark moment for Bollywood’s action genre.

The date shift from April to July was a strategic move by Aditya Chopra to avoid a direct box office clash with Salman Khan’s Battle of Galwan India TV News — smart business, and now both films get room to breathe.
