Big banners don’t always guarantee big numbers, and Alia Bhatt and Sharvari’s spy thriller Alpha is proving that the hard way. Two weeks into its run, the film is winding down quietly — a rare stumble for one of Bollywood’s most bankable franchises.
The Numbers So Far
Directed by Shiv Rawail, Alpha collected Rs. 85 lakh on its second Tuesday, actually posting a 30% jump over the previous day. That brings its running total to Rs. 52.35 crore nett in India. Despite the small daily bump, the film is on track to close its entire theatrical run somewhere between Rs. 55 crore and Rs. 60 crore — a modest number for a movie carrying the weight of the YRF Spy Universe brand.
That makes Alpha the first film in the franchise to fall short of the Rs. 100 crore nett mark in India, a milestone previous entries have comfortably cleared.

Why the Numbers Fell Short
Female-led action films have historically had a tougher time pulling crowds at the Indian box office, and Alpha was always fighting an uphill battle on that front. Add to that a spy franchise that was already cooling off after the underwhelming runs of Tiger 3 and War 2, and the odds were stacked against it from the start.
Still, there’s a silver lining worth noting: YRF has stuck to clean, transparent reporting throughout Alpha’s run, avoiding the inflated figures and PR games that plague some other releases. Win or lose, that kind of consistency says something about how the studio operates.
