Alias Rukmini: Aafiya Sayed’s Telugu Debut Could Be Nithiin’s Comeback Ticket

Sometimes a film’s casting announcement does more work than a trailer. Alias Rukmini just got its leading lady, and it’s a fresh face for Telugu audiences.

Meet Rukmini: Aafiya Sayed Steps Into Tollywood

The makers have confirmed that Aafiya Sayed is the co-lead opposite Nithiin, marking her Telugu debut. She only recently entered Bollywood with Prem Keetanu, the Hindi remake of the Malayalam hit Premalu, which starred Veer Pahariya. Two industries in one year is a pretty good start.

The film is presented by Nani under his Unanimous Productions banner, so expect his usual taste for warm, quirky storytelling.

Alias Rukmini : Overview

That Title Glimpse Was Sneaky Good

The August title glimpse showed Nani chatting with the director about a story centred on Krishna. He then spots books apparently written by someone called Rukmini, and a sleepy Nithiin wakes up to reveal she’s his wife. Nani loves the idea and asks when shooting can begin. It’s a light, playful hint that this film won’t take itself too seriously.

Why Nithiin Needs This One?

Nithiin’s last outing, the survival drama Thammudu, got mixed-to-negative reviews and struggled at the box office. A feel-good rom-com with a new pairing could be just the reset he needs.

Nani, meanwhile, is busy. After The Paradise, he’s wrapping up the action-comedy Bloody Romeo with director Sujeeth. Looking for more entertainment buzz? Browse our latest movie updates or catch up on South cinema news while you wait for December.
