Forget the forty thieves — this time, Ali Baba is hunting ghosts. Ali Baba aur 40 Bhoot takes the beloved Arabian Nights legend and flips it into a horror-comedy that’s got audiences buzzing weeks before its release. And honestly? The concept alone is reason enough to be intrigued.
A Familiar Story, Completely Reimagined
JioHotstar’s new Hotstar Specials series swaps out the classic thieves for forty restless spirits, wrapping the tale in mystery, dark humor, and genuine scares. The story follows Alisha “Ali” Nigam (Asha Negi), a neuropsychology expert searching for her missing father, whose investigation collides with Baba (Vishal Vashishtha), the police officer on her case. What starts as a grounded, logical search quickly spirals into a supernatural mess neither of them saw coming.

Why the Teaser Is Getting So Much Attention
The official teaser on JioHotstar’s YouTube channel leans hard into its eerie tone — mist-covered forests, flickering flashlights, and temple ruins set the stage, all wrapped in the cheeky tagline, “Ghosting toh normal tha, yeh toh paranormal ho gaya.” It’s a clever hook: relatable modern slang colliding with old-world folklore, which is exactly the tension the show seems built around — science versus superstition, logic versus the unexplainable.
Science vs. Supernatural: The Real Hook
What sets this series apart from typical ghost dramas is Ali’s background as a neuropsychologist. Her skepticism toward the paranormal creates natural conflict as she’s forced to confront things her training says shouldn’t exist. It’s less “haunted house” and more “rational mind meets irrational world” — a genuinely fresh angle for Indian OTT horror.
