Alfred Schreuder signs 2-year deal as new head coach of Ajax

Ajax have announced Alfred Schreuder as their new head coach – who will be replacing Erik Ten Hag starting next season. Ten Hag has already been announced as the new Manchester United manager and will be leaving the club for the Premier League.

In his final season with Ajax, he was able to guide them to a 36th Eredivisie title this season with a 5-0 win against Heerenveen in their last home game.

Alfred Schreuder announced as Erik Ten Hag replacement

Here is what Alfred Schreuder had to say upon being announced as the new head coach of the Dutch champions:

“Becoming head coach at Ajax is an honor and a great opportunity, that I will grab with both hands. I’m also excited to return here, because I enjoyed the one and a half years I’ve worked at Ajax very much. I wish to win prizes here in Amsterdam, with a team that plays attractive football.

“With a good balance between experienced top players and very big talents. But first I want to end the season with Club Brugge successfully. I want to say goodbye with a title, that is very important to me and I will do my absolute best to accomplish that.”

Schreuder has signed a contract with Ajax until June 2024, with the option for a third year. He was previously an assistant coach under Erik Ten Hag during their impressive 2018/19 campaign, and has now returned after a spell as head coach at Club Brugge.
