Bharti Airtel has made a big pricing move. The telco discontinued its entry-level plan priced at Rs 49. The entry point to its prepaid tariffs is now priced at Rs 79. This marks a start to a more collective push to risen effective tariffs plans. This will increase the average revenue per user.

The statement comes after few changes that were also made in the corporate postpaid segment. Airtel’s move is will most likely push Vodafone Idea (Vi) and Reliance Jio(Jio) to take similar steps with their tariffs as well.

Airtel officially made a statement on Wednesday. They stated, “Airtel has discontinued its Rs 49 entry-level Prepaid recharge. The Company’s Prepaid packs will now start from the Rs 79 Smart Recharge and offer up to four times more outgoing minutes of usage to customers along with double data.” This revision in the pricing structure of plans will be effective from July 29, 2021.

Airtel isn’t the only telecom provider that has upped its entry-level pricing. Rival Vi has also upgraded its post-paid plans recently. This was mainly for their corporate users, to begin with. But the latest decision will impact more than 95% of India’s customers who use prepaid services.
