AI is Mainstream But Not Mature

Developers embrace AI pragmatically for speed and automation—80% cite productivity as their primary motivation. However, AI remains a productivity tool rather than creative partner. Only 22% use it to solve unfamiliar problems, and less than half believe it performs at mid-level engineer standards.

While code generation dominates at 94% adoption, downstream tasks like documentation and testing see significantly lower usage, revealing reliability concerns that limit broader implementation.

India’s Developer Community Stands Out

Indian developers show the strongest regional confidence, with 16.2% “very confident” AI matches mid-level developer abilities—the highest among seven surveyed markets. This bold optimism separates India from Southeast Asian counterparts.

Nearly two-thirds (65.3%) of Indian developers always use AI when coding, demonstrating that AI integration has moved beyond experimentation into daily workflow necessity for competitive developers.

The Quality Challenge

Inconsistent outputs remain the primary barrier, affecting 79% of developers. To maintain standards, 67% review all AI-generated code before merging, while 70% routinely rework outputs for correctness.

Despite quality concerns, 72% report clear productivity gains, proving human oversight enhances rather than hinders AI effectiveness.

Training Gap Requires Attention

Most developers (71%) are self-taught through tutorials and side projects, with only 28% receiving employer-led training. Singapore developers access formal programs almost twice as frequently as Vietnamese counterparts, creating uneven capability development.
