A Diwali Gesture to Remember: Why Suriya Is Thanking Dhanush

In an industry where big releases often fight for the same weekend, a quiet bit of sportsmanship is making headlines. Suriya has publicly thanked Dhanush for stepping aside so their films don’t collide, and then he asked his fans a question about his own nickname.

Dhanush Moved Twice

Here’s what makes the gesture bigger than it looks. Dhanush first postponed OM: Chapter 1 from October 16, 2026, to avoid a clash with Jailer 2. Then he adjusted the schedule again to stay out of Scene’s way during the Diwali season.

At the Scene event, Suriya expressed his gratitude for those release changes. In a business where a shared weekend can split screens and box office, that’s a respectful move, and Suriya made sure it didn’t go unnoticed.

“Should I Keep ‘The One’?”

Then came the fun part. Suriya asked fans whether he should keep using the moniker “The One,” which he has carried since Karthik Subbaraj’s Retro. The crowd’s response was enthusiastic, so he agreed to continue with it.

He also described Scene as a fresh experience filled with mystery, madness and laughter, and urged audiences to watch it with an open mind and a cheerful mood. In his words, it should make for a lovely Diwali entertainer.

What Each Film Offers?

Scene follows Inbaraj, an officer known for exceptional skills and equally unruly, bratty behavior. At the peak of his career, he quits the force to hunt his arch-enemy Eeswaran on his own. He teams up with an unconventional crew, including Maya, who is also his love interest. Nazriya Nazim Fahadh and Naslen star, with Anandraj, Lal and Raj Priyan in key roles.

OM: Chapter 1 is an action thriller built around an operation involving the illegal red sandalwood trade. Dhanush and Mammootty lead, with Sai Pallavi and Sreeleela in important roles.
