What’s the Story?
A Chou lives at the very bottom of society, clearing night soil from city streets to get by. Then her life flips. She looks remarkably like Wei Rao, a marquis’s daughter, and is married off to Lu Zhuo, the dying heir of a duke’s household, in a match meant to bring him good luck.
A Chou sees a chance to climb. But complications arrive fast when her husband unexpectedly recovers. The real Wei Rao wants her gone, Lu Zhuo suspects his new wife is a schemer, and the mansion is far more dangerous than it looks. As she plots her way through the household, A Chou also starts uncovering the truth about where she really comes from.
Meet the Cast
- Tian Xi Wei plays both Wei Rao and A Chou. She’s known for Pursuit of Jade, New Life Begins and Guardians of the Dafeng.
- Yan An plays Lu Zhuo.

- Pan Jun Ya plays Bi Tao.

Why This One Looks Promising?
Pursuit of Jade became one of the biggest C-dramas Netflix has carried, reaching its global top 10 for non-English shows. Where the Mask Ends uses a similar marriage-of-convenience setup, so fans of that show should feel at home.
The dual role is the real draw. Playing a pampered noble and a street-level survivor gives Tian Xi Wei a lot to work with, and the identity-swap plot promises twists.
Netflix has been busy with Chinese content this year. YOUKU’s Ashes to Crown arrived daily from June, and the workplace romance The Early Spring followed weekly in late August. Where the Mask Ends continues that pattern.
What to Know Before You Watch?
The exact Netflix start date and schedule haven’t been confirmed in the app, so keep an eye out around mid-October. Availability is expected in the US and most international regions. Weekly releases mean slow-burn viewing, so expect cliffhangers and plenty of online theorising.
