TikTok is preparing to launch a completely new US-exclusive app on September 5, 2025, as part of compliance with federal legislation requiring divestment of its American operations due to national security concerns.

What Changes for Users?

Starting September 5, the existing TikTok app will be removed from US app stores. Users must download the new “M2” version to continue accessing the platform. The current app will completely stop functioning after March 2026.

This unprecedented move stems from Congressional legislation mandating that Chinese parent company ByteDance either sell its US TikTok business or face a nationwide ban. The new app will operate under US-based oversight.

Why This Matters

For TikTok’s massive 170 million US users, this represents the biggest platform change in the app’s history. The transition ensures continued access while addressing regulatory concerns about data security and foreign influence.

Content creators and businesses relying on TikTok should prepare for the migration well before the March 2026 deadline. All user data will transfer to the new app, maintaining continuity for the platform’s ecosystem.
