More than a decade after Cocktail left audiences emotionally stirred, director Homi Adajania is back with Cocktail 2—this time with a brand-new star cast and an evolved take on love, friendship, and the complications that come with it. Featuring Kriti Sanon, Shahid Kapoor, and Rashmika Mandanna, the much-anticipated sequel is all set to go on floors this August 2025, promising a fresh blend of chemistry, storytelling, and style.
The Legacy Continues: 13 Years After Cocktail (2012)
Originally released in 2012, Cocktail broke the mold of conventional Bollywood romances. With Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, and Diana Penty portraying a tangled yet heartfelt love triangle, the film became a cultural marker of its time—lauded for its soul-stirring soundtrack, stylish cinematography, and Deepika’s unforgettable performance. Now, Cocktail 2 aims to recapture that magic while reflecting the complexities of today’s relationships.
Meet the New Trio: Kriti, Shahid, and Rashmika Step Into the Spotlight
With an impressive ensemble, Cocktail 2 is poised to offer a refreshing take on modern relationships:
| Actor | Role in Cocktail 2 (TBA) | Recent/Upcoming Projects |
|---|---|---|
| Kriti Sanon | Lead | Tere Ishk Mein with Dhanush, Don 3 (rumored) |
| Shahid Kapoor | Lead | Period drama with Triptii Dimri & Randeep Hooda |
| Rashmika Mandanna | Lead | Mysaa, The Girlfriend, Thama, Animal Park |
Kriti and Shahid’s recent pairing in Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya (2024) struck the right chord with viewers. Their reunion, now complemented by Rashmika’s fresh energy, has fans anticipating a compelling on-screen synergy.
Behind the Scenes: Style Meets Storytelling
The film is produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films and penned by writer-director Luv Ranjan, known for his knack for witty yet emotional narratives. While plot details remain under wraps, fans caught a whiff of progress when Anaita Shroff Adajania, celebrity stylist and wife of director Homi, teased the Cocktail 2 script on her Instagram story. Additionally, Kriti Sanon’s recent visit to Maddock Films’ Mumbai office further suggests that pre-production is in full swing.
Target Release: Cocktail 2 to Hit Theatres in Late 2026
According to sources, the makers are eyeing a theatrical release in the second half of 2026. Given the sequel’s weighty legacy and the star-studded casting, the anticipation is building steadily. Although Cocktail 2 will feature a completely new storyline, it is expected to carry forward the original’s tone—urban, emotionally layered, and stylishly narrated.
What Made the Original Cocktail Iconic?
| Element | Impact |
|---|---|
| Music | Chartbusters like “Tumhi Ho Bandhu” & “Daaru Desi” |
| Performance | Deepika Padukone’s breakout role; redefined her acting journey |
| Theme | A fresh take on love, identity, and modern friendship |
| Cinematography | Global aesthetic with a vibrant color palette |
With Cocktail 2, the creative minds of Homi Adajania and Luv Ranjan, backed by Maddock Films, are bringing forward a new-age story set to match the emotional intensity and stylish narrative of its predecessor. As filming kicks off this August, all eyes are on how this new trio will stir up the screen and deliver another unforgettable cinematic cocktail.
