Motorola Android 16 Update: Complete Release Timeline & Device List

Motorola has officially confirmed its Android 16 update plans, including the entire Motorola Razr 2025 series and select older models. While Google’s Android 16 is already live, Motorola devices should start receiving updates around September-October 2025 based on previous rollout patterns.

Motorola Android 16: Release Date & Eligible Devices

Confirmed Eligible Devices

The list includes Motorola Edge 40 Pro and higher models, recent Moto G phones, and recent Razr foldables. However, Motorola has yet to confirm Android 16 eligibility for some phones, including the Razr 2024, Moto G35, and Moto G15.

Major Android 16 Features Coming

Users can expect a redesigned volume slider, auto-grouping notifications to reduce clutter, and split quick settings panels. Additional improvements include adaptive refresh rates for battery efficiency, cleaner notification icons, and enhanced Gemini access.

Motorola’s Update Track Record

Motorola isn’t exactly the best at software updates, but the brand is the first Android OEM to reveal its Android 16 plans. The company has shown improvement with Android 15 rollouts, though the 2024 Razr+ didn’t receive Android 15 until May 2025.

What’s Missing From The List

Unfortunately, many Moto G phones and the original ThinkPhone are missing from the confirmed list. This selective approach reflects Motorola’s focus on newer hardware for major OS upgrades.

Expected Timeline

While Motorola has confirmed initial Android 16 eligibility details, it hasn’t committed to specific release dates yet. Based on historical patterns and current development progress, flagship devices like the Razr 2025 series will likely receive updates first, followed by Edge and select Moto G models.

The Android 16 rollout represents Motorola’s continued commitment to software support, albeit with the brand’s characteristic cautious approach to update deployment.
