Luka Modric To Join AC Milan After 2025 FIFA Club World Cup

The football world is buzzing with excitement as Luka Modric, the 39-year-old Croatian maestro, has verbally agreed to join AC Milan following the conclusion of the Club World Cup. This remarkable transfer brings one of football’s greatest midfielders to San Siro, where he’ll don the famous red and black stripes as a lifelong fan of the Italian giants.

The Dream Move That Almost Didn’t Happen

After 13 glittering years at Real Madrid, where he amassed an incredible 28 major trophies including six Champions League titles, Modric is ready for his next adventure. AC Milan’s sporting director, Igli Tare, revealed the emotional moment when the deal was sealed.

“I spoke to him in person and saw a guy who is really eager to be competitive,” Tare told Gazzetta dello Sport. The conversation revealed Modric’s unwavering ambition even at 39: “The first question Luka asked me was: ‘Will we be a team built to win the championship?’“

This isn’t just any transfer – it’s a homecoming of sorts. Modric has been an AC Milan fan since childhood, making this move particularly meaningful for both player and club.

Contract Details: What We Know

Sources close to ESPN confirm that personal terms were agreed in early June, with both parties shaking hands just before the Club World Cup began. The Croatian icon will officially sign once the tournament in the United States concludes.

Why This Move Makes Perfect Sense

For Luka Modric

At nearly 40, Modric isn’t ready to hang up his boots. The 2018 Ballon d’Or winner has his sights set on the 2026 World Cup in the United States, and he needs regular playing time to maintain his international career. AC Milan offers the perfect platform for continued excellence.

“He is important for what he will convey in terms of mentality, leadership and professionalism,” Tare emphasized, highlighting exactly what the Croatian brings beyond his technical abilities.

For AC Milan

The Rossoneri are building a squad capable of challenging for the Serie A title. Adding a player of Modric’s caliber – someone who’s conquered Europe’s biggest stages – provides invaluable experience and leadership to a relatively young squad.

The psychological impact cannot be understated. Having a six-time Champions League winner in your dressing room elevates everyone’s standards and expectations.

The Perfect Timing

This transfer comes at an ideal moment for both parties. Modric will turn 40 in September but remains fully fit and motivated. His experience will be crucial as AC Milan aims to compete on multiple fronts, including their return to Champions League football.

The timing also aligns perfectly with Modric’s international ambitions. With the 2026 World Cup on the horizon, regular Serie A football will keep him sharp and match-ready for Croatia’s campaign.

What This Means for AC Milan’s Squad

Milan are clearly building something special. Alongside the Modric signing, they’ve also agreed personal terms with Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Granit Xhaka, though a transfer fee agreement is still pending. This double midfield reinforcement signals serious intent from the Italian giants.

The combination of Modric’s experience and creativity with Milan’s existing young talents could prove to be the perfect blend for success in both domestic and European competitions.
