Gabriel Magalhaes Commits to Arsenal Future with New Deal Until 2029

Arsenal have confirmed that Gabriel Magalhães has signed a new four-year contract extension, committing his future to the club until 2029.

Brazilian CB Signs Fresh Contract After Stellar Spell in North London

The Brazilian defender, who arrived at the Emirates in 2020, has become a cornerstone of the Gunners’ backline, combining resilience, reliability, and an uncanny knack for scoring goals.

The 27-year-old’s journey in North London has been nothing short of transformative. Since his arrival from French side Lille, Gabriel has matured into one of the most dependable defenders in the Premier League, making over 200 appearances and netting 20 goals — more than any other defender in Arsenal’s history.

Gabriel’s emotional reflections upon signing his new deal highlighted his deep connection to the club and its fans. “I arrived here as a young player and after almost five years I’m so happy and I’ve learned a lot,” he said. “I’m so proud of myself, it’s an amazing journey, and I’m so happy to continue it. I hope I win some trophies with this club, because I love this club and my family loves the club, too.”

The Brazilian centre-back has enjoyed both personal and collective growth during his time in London. From his debut goal against Fulham in September 2020 to becoming a key figure in Arsenal’s defensive unit, Gabriel has consistently shown a warrior spirit and tactical discipline.

Integral Role in Arsenal’s Defence

Since arriving from Ligue 1, Gabriel has played a vital role in Arsenal’s defensive resurgence. Across the past two Premier League seasons, the Gunners have boasted the league’s best defensive record, conceding the fewest goals, with Gabriel’s towering presence a major factor in that success.

Despite a hamstring injury that sidelined him during the final stretch of the 2024-25 campaign, his influence remained undeniable. Without him, Arsenal managed only three wins in their last eight league matches — a testament to the void his absence left in the team’s structure.

A Goal-Scoring Defender

Gabriel isn’t just known for his defensive prowess. With 20 goals in all competitions, he has proven to be a consistent threat in set-piece situations. His ability to pop up with crucial goals, like the match-winner against Tottenham in September 2024, has endeared him to the Emirates faithful.

From headers in high-pressure moments to decisive clearances in the dying minutes, Gabriel has delivered time and again — both in front of his own goal and the opposition’s.

His consistent performances earned him a well-deserved spot in the 2023/24 PFA Team of the Year, cementing his reputation among England’s elite defenders. Earlier that season, he lifted the Community Shield after a thrilling penalty shootout triumph over Manchester City at Wembley.

Rise to International Level

Gabriel’s club form didn’t go unnoticed on the international stage either. He made his Brazil debut in November 2021 and has since earned 14 caps for the Seleção. He scored his first international goal in a 2023 World Cup qualifier against Venezuela, adding another feather to his increasingly decorated cap.

Gabriel’s words following the contract announcement underscore his passion for Arsenal and his desire to achieve more with the club. “Arsenal is an amazing club and I’m so proud to sign a new contract. I love this club, I love the supporters, my teammates, I love this stadium. I’m so proud and thank you for all the support. We continue together for the future.”
