Xiaomi’s upcoming flagship, the Xiaomi 16, is shaping up to be a serious contender in the compact flagship category, thanks to a new leak from China suggesting it will feature a significantly larger battery than anticipated.

Previously rumored to serve a 6,800mAh cell or an “over 6,500mAh” one, the newest report alleges that the Xiaomi 16 could receive an enormous 7,000mAh battery — a bump that would place it far ahead of the 5,240mAh Xiaomi 15. This number is also consistent with a previous tip from Weibo leaker ‘Wisdom Pikachu’, which lends further credence to the report.

Xiaomi 16 Leak Reveals Huge 7,000mAh Battery, Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, and Compact OLED Display

Despite its boosted battery, the Xiaomi 16 is still slated to be relatively small, with a 6.3-inch to 6.39-inch flat OLED display. If that’s true, that combination of portability and bonkers battery life — made all the more possible by silicon-carbon battery tech, perhaps — could make this a go-to device for people who care more about all-day gaming, streaming, or productivity, and less about recharging all the time.

Powering the Xiaomi 16 will be Qualcomm’s forthcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 processor, which has already been officially confirmed. This next-gen chipset promises top-tier performance and energy efficiency, especially for AI-driven tasks and intensive multitasking. On the camera front, leaks indicate a triple 50MP rear setup, including a main sensor with a large 1/1.3-inch format for excellent low-light shots and possibly a periscope telephoto lens for high-quality zoom and macro photography.

Software-wise, the phone is expected to ship with HyperOS 3.0 based on Android 16, delivering a fluid and modern user experience. With a launch anticipated in China around late September, the Xiaomi 16 looks ready to set new standards in its class. If these specs hold, it could offer a serious challenge to premium devices like the Galaxy S26 Ultra and iPhone 17 Pro, especially in terms of battery longevity and compact usability.
