The Taiwanese OEM has pushed a latest BIOS update that optimizes performance on AMD Renoir powered laptops in December. This update has magically increased the performance on my ASUS VivoBook Flip 14 TM420 laptop with Ryzen 7 4700U with 8 cores and 8 threads.
There were three laptop updates pushed after September that optimized performance from the default out-of-the-box version of the laptop. The first update I saw, I did mention in my review and after that one update brought significant impact on the Vega iGPU performance.
The 301 update was significant for the graphics performance:
After that I didn’t write about it as there were no significant performance improvement on the CPU front. The new ASUS 302 BIOS update in December has brought significant impact to the APU’s overall performance:
The single-core performance has improved from 1129 to 1154 points in Geekbench whereas the 5192 points got increased to 5326 points in multi-threaded score. This is almost 2.6% performance improvement in multi-threaded tests and it is quite significant as this is totally free of cost. Most other AMD Renoir powered laptops by ASUS should be getting this update and you should do the BIOS update now!!!
