From the opening whistle, Barcelona asserted their authority. Caroline Graham Hansen opened the scoring in the 30th minute with a powerful strike, setting the tone for the match. Ewa Pajor then took center stage, netting two goals before halftime, including a stunning header from a pinpoint corner by Graham.

With the scoreline already a daunting 3-0, Barcelona continued to dominate in the second half. Patri Guijarro’s thunderous strike from outside the box extended their lead, and team captain Alexia Putellas sealed the win in the 85th minute with a perfectly placed header.

The victory marked the first ever Supercopa final clash between Barcelona and Real Madrid, and the Catalans made it memorable by extending their unbeaten streak against their rivals to an incredible 18 matches, with an aggregate scoreline of 72-7 over their encounters.

The Bigger Picture

Barcelona Femeni have now scored an astonishing 32 goals in five Supercopa finals since 2020, conceding only once. Their dominance in the competition is unmatched, with previous victories over Levante, Atletico Madrid, and Real Sociedad further cementing their legacy.

This win also highlights the gulf in class between Barcelona and Real Madrid in the women’s game. Real Madrid, despite improvements in recent years, were outclassed in every aspect, with Barcelona dictating possession, creating chances, and controlling the tempo throughout the match.

Celebrations and Reflections

As the final whistle blew, the iconic Barça anthem echoed across the stadium in Leganés, marking the beginning of jubilant celebrations. Club president Joan Laporta joined the team on the pitch, emphasizing the importance of their achievement.

Alexia Putellas, speaking after the game, expressed her pride in the team:

“It gave me goosebumps to see so many fans supporting us, especially here in Madrid. Our success last year doesn’t guarantee anything for this season. We’re driven to keep winning titles because a footballer’s career, especially at Barça, is fleeting.”

What’s Next for Barcelona Femeni?

Barcelona’s head coach, Pere Romeu, praised his team’s hunger for success and their commitment to continuous improvement. The team will now turn their focus back to Liga F, where they face Levante on February 1.

With their first trophy of the season already secured, Barcelona Femeni are on track to make another historic run across all competitions. As their dominance grows, they continue to inspire future generations and elevate the profile of women’s football in Spain and beyond.

Barcelona’s emphatic 5-0 victory over Real Madrid in the Supercopa de España final was more than just a win, it was a statement. With their fourth consecutive title and a performance of sheer brilliance, they reaffirmed their status as the queens of Spanish football.

As Real Madrid look to close the gap, Barcelona remain focused on raising the bar even higher. For fans, this season promises to be another thrilling chapter in the legacy of this unstoppable team.
