Nintendo Switch 2 Leaks: TFLOPS, DLSS, and What It Means for Gamers

One more set of details that are exciting to the game world’s enthusiasts has been recently leaked of the Nintendo Switch 2 console that boasts of high computing performance and features that potentially it will come with. In the leak provided by the user Zachy of Famiboards, the up-coming console’s GPU performance in (TFLOPS) has been revealed for both docked and undocked modes, letting us anticipate what to expect. However, full realization will come when the console becomes available.

Nintendo Switch 2 Leaks: TFLOPS, DLSS, and What It Means for Gamers

Docked vs. Undocked Performance

The leaked data suggests that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be capable of operating in two different modes, High-performance mode and Low-power mode, which have quite a large difference in their clock/cycle speeds of the clock regarding the GPU memory of the processor. Read more here. This would allow us to deliver more FLOPS per watt, the ultimate affordability metric, and provide a real improvement in performance and utilisation of the new HBM memory technology for gaming systems.

  • Undocked (Handheld Mode): The GPU clock speed is reportedly 561 MHz, meaning 1.71 TFLOPS.
  • Docked Mode: The GPU clock speed changes to 1000 MHz, and it provides around 3.1 TFLOPS, which is almost double.

Even though these numbers may sound like bad news to you if you compare them to the high-end gaming PCs, they turn out to be a huge improvement of 0.4 TFLOPS in the original Nintendo Switch handheld mode.

How Does It Compare to Other Consoles?

So, to put things into perspective:

  • The XBOX SERIES S/X GPU (IF this is only the GPU not including the APUs) is around 15TF, which is slightly more than the docked mode on a switch 2. Hence the Xbox Series X.
  • However, the desktop GEFORCE RTX 3060 GPU, which was launched in 2021, can beat even the Xbox Series X with its 12 TFLOPS. The switch 2’s differentiator remains its portable capability.

The additional level of performance the XBOX SERIES S would bring to the table would only swing the power balance to the developers when it comes to games running on both kinds of hardware. If this happens, console games will be announced soon.

The NVIDIA Advantage: DLSS and Ray Reconstruction

The next Nintendo device, known as the Switch 2, is said to be driven by NVIDIA’s Tegra 239 SoC, with eight CPU cores, along with a 2048 CUDA cores-based Ampere GPU. Its most distinctive feature is its out-of-the-box support for NVIDIA DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) and Ray Reconstruction technology.

  • DLSS Super Resolution: Through the use of this AI-powered technology, the Switch 2 will upscale the graphics, and by doing so the GPU will not have to work harder. Maybe we are going to have a revolutionary feature that is going to lead to exceptionally smooth gameplay on any powerful game.
  • Ray Reconstruction: Opposing to the favorable point of implementing advanced lighting trades, this functionality will not be universally utilized because of the limited cryptocurrency mining power of the computer. Game developers are likely to worry more about rates of performance delivery, resulting in the reduced use of ray tracing.

Backward Compatibility and Launch Timeline

One of the most promising officially confirmed parts of the Nintendo Switch 2 is its backward compatibility with current games from the Switch series. That would mean the users would have instant access to a large inventory of titles since the beginning, so the transition to the new console will be quite comforted for the existing Switch owners.

Nintendo has pledged to release the Switch 2 hardware prior to the termination of March 2025 and coincide with its fiscal year’s end. Skip ahead – Actually, leaks and other hearsay are happening nearly every day, which is just elevating the level of thrill among people.

What This Means for Gamers

Nintendo is setting the stage for the Switch 2 to be a considerable upgrade from its original version, providing improved performance, incredible graphics with DLSS, and a stronger third-party game ecosystem. Though it may not reach the level of the Xbox Series S or the highest quality gaming PCs, the convenience, versatility, and compatibility with older games make it a valid alternative for players.

A new Nintendo Switch will come out. The only thing supporting this statement is a short period of time that would allow Nintendo to remain as a healthy, unique, and cheap video game company. Watch out for more updates coming up as the countdown to its release starts!
