MediaTek Dimensity 9400+ Tipped to Power Chinese Flagships

A couple of months after MediaTek announced Dimensity 9400, many Chinese manufacturers quickly adopted the flagship chipset in their flagship phones. Now, a tipster claims that MediaTek is readying the Dimensity 9400+, making for the third consecutive generation of only slightly enhanced top-end silicon from the company.

Powering the display will be the MediaTek Dimensity 9400+, and according to Digital Chat Station via Weibo, OPPO will release 3 flagship smartphones in the first half of the next year and those are going to have a display of 6.3 inches, 6.6 inches, and 6.8 inches. Though we don’t have any specifics on the updated chip, it seems to follow the same process from MediaTek’s mini-series of its latest flagship, the Dimensity 9300 and 9300+, which was just small tweaks to the design.

The MediaTek Dimensity 9400+ is expected to feature incremental upgrades, such as higher clock speeds, a better APU, and perhaps also a minor GPU frequency boost. These enhancements would be a bid to ensure MediaTek remains competitive against Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite. With performance, cores clocked to 4.32GHz and cooling sufficient to push up to 4.57GHz, Qualcomm’s latest flagship chipset sets new single-threaded performance records.

In comparison, the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 currently has Cortex-X925 cores with a 3.63GHz clock speed. The Dimensity 9400+ should raise that figure to roughly 3.70GHz. While this would provide an incremental bump, there would still be a vast clock speed gap between the MediaTek Dimensity 9400+ and Snapdragon 8 Elite. Nevertheless, the performance gap in synthetic and real-world benchmarks could narrow, helping MediaTek position itself more favorably in the premium chipset market.

Although the MediaTek Dimensity 9400+ may not introduce revolutionary changes, its iterative improvements demonstrate MediaTek’s focus on refining its flagship offerings to remain competitive. In markets where even slight performance enhancements can influence buyer decisions, this strategy could give MediaTek a meaningful edge in the ongoing race for high-end chipset supremacy.
