Gerard Pique is one of Barcelona’s most loyal players. The player came through the ranks at La Masia and was eventually moved on to Manchester United. After spending four years at the Theatre of Dreams, the centre-back was brought back home by Barcelona in 2008.

He has since become a cornerstone in Barcelona’s backline, featuring in the starting XI for over a decade. Pique is without a doubt their best centre-back as of now, although he is currently out with an injury.

The veteran defender is currently 33 years old, and recently signed a contract extension with the Blaugrana that extended his tenure with the club till 2024.

Pique was asked about the possibility of one day becoming the President of the club, and here is what he had to say:

“Not in the upcoming elections because I can’t. I’m still a player and when you’re a player you can’t stand, but in the future you never know. I’m a massive Barcelona fan, as you all know.”

“I’d like to help the club I love in the best way I know how, and that means being really well prepared to be president, if one day I think I can contribute something. If not I won’t put myself forward. It’s something I’ll decide in the future, it’s a dream I’ve always had, but I don’t know if it will happen in the future.”

Barcelona have been in a precarious position on the field, as well as the management of the club. Although they recently agreed on a wage cut among their players, Barcelona have a long way to go in order to restore their glorious status on a consistent basis.

Former President Josep Maria Bartomeu resigned from his post following a no-confidence vote passed in his favour. The Barcelona Presidential elections to determine the next man in charge will be held in 2021.
