Ishan Kishan’s form was undoubtedly a very big factor in Mumbai Indians’ success in the IPL 2020 season. But did you know that he now holds a very unique and special record in the long-standing 13 years history of the Indian Premier League?
The 22-year-old cricketer from Jharkhand now holds the record of being the highest runs getter in an IPL season whilst being an uncapped player. For those unknown to the cricketing jargon, an uncapped player is defined as an Indian or foreign cricketer who has never played for their country before in any of the existing three international formats of the game. From that perspective, Kishan’s feat is mightily impressive for a youngster who is yet to even play for India.
One can further take a step and argue that Kishan should actually be considered by the Indian selectors’ panel to solve their wicket-keeping batsman problems. With the incumbent Rishabh Pant displaying the erratic form in the limited-overs game and Sanju Samson also not stepping up to the plate, it could actually be a golden opportunity, if provided, for Ishan Kishan to show what he is worth at an international stage in the upcoming tours of the Indian cricket team.
Kishan scored 516 runs in 16 matches through the course of the IPL competition with a tremendous batting average.
The MI youngster also scored 30 sixes, the most of anybody, in the 2020 edition of the tournament which made him a sizeable opponent in the middle overs of the game, often accelerating the pace of the innings and leading Mumbai to a commanding score or in some cases, even winning games.
Kishan’s highest score game in the tournament came in the match against RCB while chasing a target of 202, and he scored 99 alone which got them incredibly close to winning the game. But, this record goes to show that Kishan’s market value has now increased, in what could be a bright future for him in the upcoming years.
