Intel XeSS2 Official: Frame Generation & Low Latency Boost

Intel has made official its XeSS2, the next-generation version of its Super Sampling (XeSS) tech that integrates two key features — frame generation and low-latency mode — that are designed to improve gaming performance and deliver a smoother gaming experience. Intel adds new features to XeSS with the launch of its brand-new Battlemage Arc B580 and B570 GPUs.

Intel XeSS2 Unveiled: Frame Generation and Low-Latency Mode Boost Gaming Performance

Hooking up XeSS2 as the headliner is frame generation, which is probably how Intel GPUs will take a big performance number. The AI draws the upcoming frame similar to playback (NVIDIA & AMD have done this here) at the expense of additional hardware focuses for improved outline rates.

This translates into some quite impressive performance gains, especially at 1440p Ultra in gaming. This means being able to generate up to a 3.9x performance boost – in Ultra Performance mode – on Intel’s Arc B580 GPU, thanks to its XeSS2 frame generation. Even using the Quality preset, gamers can experience as much as 2.8x the native performance in terms of FPS. For Intel users, this translates into smoother and higher framerate performance in demanding titles.

Other notable new features include XeLL, or Xe Low Latency mode which is focused on reducing latency when gaming, particularly if frame generation is turned on. Intel cites up to a 45% boost in system and game responsiveness at identical 1440p Ultra gaming settings with XeLL. This is similar to NVIDIA’s Reflex and AMD’s Anti-Lag 2 forms, both of which are designed to reduce input lag for competitive gaming. Intel’s also introduced a driver-level low-latency mode akin to Radeon Boost that you can enable in supported games for more responsiveness enhancements.

XeSS2 support will be available in ten games at launch, including Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, Harry Potter Quidditch: Champions, Robocop: Rogue City, and Dying Light 2: Stay Human. With XeSS2, Intel has met the competition, NVIDIA’s DLSS3 and AMD’s FS3, and now boasts a more competitive feature set for gamers and Battlemage GPUs that will appeal even more to demanding WIGs.
