iOS 19 Rumors: Siri Gets ChatGPT-Like Upgrade, Features Delayed

iOS 19, expected to be announced in June 2025, is already generating buzz due to a major feature that has leaked ahead of its release. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, in his Power On newsletter, reported that iOS 19 will include a “more conversational Siri” based on powerful large language models. This update aims to help Siri become much more powerful and capable of managing much more detailed and nuanced requests in the way the ChatGPT by OpenAI works, for example.

iOS 19 to Feature ‘Conversational Siri’ Powered by Advanced AI Models

While it seems that Apple is working on an updated version of Siri, this function won’t be ready until WWDC 2025. Gurman adds that the new version of Siri won’t be available until spring 2026 at the earliest and would likely be an iOS 19.4 feature. This means the new Siri will be a high point of the home and Esther’s underwhelming iOS 19, but user adoption of what will eventually be the new Siri may take longer. Gurman added that a slew of additional features initially intended to ship in iOS 19 will be pushed to iOS 19.4’s launch in 2026. He didn’t share specifics about the features they had put off.

In the meantime, iOS 18.2, due sometime in the upcoming few months, promises to bring an integration of Siri with ChatGPT, a first move towards improving Siri’s ability to converse in the way systems that make extensive use of AI like ChatGPT do. In another upcoming update, Gurman says, Apple will integrate Siri with Google’s Gemini, another expansion of Siri’s capabilities. Due in December, the next iOS 18.2 update should bring on-screen awareness features and more granular per-app controls, though Siri will not yet, in iOS 18.4, be able to hold full ChatGPT-style conversations.

Once iPhone owners get the new Siri in their hands, they’ll hopefully have less cause to lean on third-party services like ChatGPT and Gemini, since the built-in assistant will be able to tackle more nuanced tasks. However, with iOS 19.4 still over a year away, the full rollout of the new Siri is still some time off.
