Apple recently unveiled versions of the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro laptops that feature the M4 Pro and M4 Max processors and introduced a budget 14-inch MacBook Pro with the standard M3 chip included as well.
The upgraded M4 Pro and M4 Max models now boast a minimum of 24GB of Unified Memory compared to the 18GB configuration they offered before this update. Both laptop models are now equipped with three Thunderbolt 5 ports that promise speeds of up to 120 Gb/s thanks to Bandwidth Boost technology. An improvement over the maximum speed achievable, with Thunderbolt 5.

Thunderbolt 5 also includes native support for DisplayPort 2.1 output over USB-C and is fully compatible with USB4, supporting advanced protocols like PCIe 4.0 for enhanced data transfer rates with peripherals and storage devices. The new M4 Pro processor comes with a 14-core CPU (10 cores for performance and 4 efficiency cores) along with a GPU that boasts up to 20 cores doubling the capabilities of the M4 model. According to Apple’s statement, the memory bandwidth of the M5 Pro is increased by 75% resulting in a performance boost of up to three times compared to its predecessor, the M1 Pro.
The M4 Max model comes with a 16-core CPU and a 40-core GPU while providing more than 500 GB/s of memory bandwidth and a Neural Engine that is, three times faster than the M1 Max model. Additionally, it is capable of supporting up to 128GB of Unified Memory which results in performance gains of up to 3.5 times when compared to the M1 Max model.
Both models feature an upgraded Liquid Retina XDR display with a new nano-texture option, reaching up to 1000 nits of brightness for SDR content, and a new 12MP Center Stage camera with improved video quality in low light. The 14-inch model with M4 Pro offers up to 22 hours of battery life, while the M4 Max provides 18 hours. For the 16-inch MacBook Pro, battery life is up to 24 hours with M4 Pro and 21 hours with M4 Max.
All models now support HDMI up to 8K resolution. The M4 Pro can connect up to three 6K displays at 60Hz, while the M4 Max can support three 6K displays at 60Hz via Thunderbolt, with additional options for higher resolutions through HDMI. Additional features include an SDXC card slot, MagSafe 3 charging, a headphone jack, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.3. Available in space black and silver, the new MacBook Pros are open for pre-order today and will launch on November 8, with prices starting at $1,599 for the 14-inch and $2,499 for the 16-inch models in the U.S.
