Yash Confirms Role as Ravana in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayan, Shares Insight on His Involvement

Yash has finally put an end to the speculation, confirming that he will be playing Ravana in Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming Ramayan. In a recent interaction with The Hollywood Reporter India, the KGF star confirmed that he has been offered ‘Adipurush’ where he will be seen as Ravana and Ranbir Kapoor is being approached to play Lord Ram while Sai Pallavi is to cast Sita. Meanwhile, Yash also mentioned that he is co-producing the film and narrated an interesting tale of how he ended up being a production house.

Yash said that Namit Malhotra from the VFX companies DNEG and Prime Focus reached out to him while Yash was in Los Angeles working on its visual effects for his latest film Toxic, which competes at par with a big-budget production like Ramayan. “He spoke about Ramayan. They had been working on it for many years and he said, ‘I have this vision, this is what is happening and I am not able to put it together with the cast,” Yash remembered.

He explained how he was convinced to take on the role of Ravana, stating, “If the character is treated like a character… if this doesn’t happen today, then the film won’t happen. To make a film with that kind of budget, you need actors who are willing to come together for the project. It has to be beyond yourself and your stardom. We must prioritize the project and its vision.”

When asked if he would have preferred to play another character in the film, Yash responded, “It’s a very fascinating character. I wouldn’t have done it for any other reason. In Ramayan, if you had asked me if I would play any other character, probably not. For me, Ravana is the most exciting role to take on as an actor, as it allows for a wide range of shades and nuances.” Reportedly, Ramayan is being made on ₹835 crore budget and will hit the theatres in 2025. The film is currently in its pre-production stage.
