Apple Scales Back Vision Pro Production and Pauses 2nd-Generation Development Amid Weak Demand

A new report from The Information says that Apple has stopped making the Vision Pro headset and could discontinue producing a current model by the end of next year. Reductions in VR headset production began this summer, with the decrease first reported by Nikkei Asian Review and attributed to sources involved in its component production. This means Apple likely has a Vision Pro unit supply for the device’s entire lifecycle through to next year.

Apple Stopping Vision Pro Production

Just weeks ago, Apple told the Chinese company — Luxshare which is assembling Vision Pro at its plants that it will have to slow down production in November. Today, Luxshare is producing 1,000 headsets per day which is just half of what the company was able to manage in peak production days. Except, sales get better and Apple could very quickly stand production back up since the assembly lines have not very long gone dormant.

Apple has also allegedly paused plans for the second-gen Vision Pro by at least 12 months to concentrate on making a less expensive headset. Suppliers have been instructed to prepare for the production of four million low-cost headsets over the product’s lifespan, which is half the number originally planned for the Vision Pro, indicating even lower sales expectations for the cheaper model.
