Chief Justice DY Chandrachud dislikes few practices

India’s Chief Justice, DY Chandrachud, stated that other attorneys are now bringing up the same issue in court to obtain a date. India’s Chief Justice, DY Chandrachud, has taken a firm stance against a “new practice” in which lawyers bring up the same case before the bench more than once in order to secure a date. In the Chief Justice’s words, attorneys “cannot take the court for a ride” when they use these strategies.

“This is a new practice. The same case is mentioned by several attorneys for listing, and you obtain a date as soon as the judge blinks. This is the new custom that is taking shape. As Chief Justice, I will never use the small amount of discretion I have in your favor. The court cannot be taken for granted.

Attorneys have frequently been reprimanded for publicly addressing the bench and meddling in cases. It was only yesterday that the Chief Justice chastised a lawyer for using the colloquial “yeah” in court. The attorney was using the expressions in reference to a specific matter. It’s not a coffee shop here! What’s this, yes, yes? Yes, I have severe allergies to this. This is not acceptable,” the Chief Justice declared firmly.
