India vs Bangladesh SAFF U17 Championship

India started their SAFF U17 Championship with a narrow 1-0 win against Bangladesh. The Blue Colts picked up the win through a headed goal from Sumit Sharma, which was enough to see them through.

The Blues struggled to break the deadlock in the Changlimithang Stadium, but found their way through at the death. Sharma scored in the first minute of injury time, which was too late for Bangladesh to find an equaliser.

Manbhakupar Malngiang must also be given due credit, as he helped conjure the goal with a precise cross after coming off the bench. The fullbacks had a field day, producing several overlapping runs and taking the game to the opposition defenders. However, they had to remain patient to find a breakthrough.

With only three teams in Group A, India have three points, and are close to securing qualification with a second win. They will face Maldives in their next game on 24 September 2024 at the same venue.

Group B consists of Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and Pakistan. It will be interesting to see which teams can make it through to challenge the defending champions in the knockout stages of the tournament.

How many teams from Group B will make it to knockout stage?

Only two
