The partnership between Bajaj Auto and Triumph Motorcycles has been a win-win situation so far. Their partnership finally kicked off with two super attractive 400cc bikes under the Triumph brand for a whisker of money. Next, a second stage is dedicated to more castings. One of the fruits from this joint effort will arise in the form of a 400cc motorcycle, which is expected to be unveiled by Bajaj and Triumph based on Speed 400 on September 17.
More About The Teased Triumph 400cc Bike
After recent rumors and teasers, it is now almost beyond question that Bajaj and Triumph will soon launch two new vehicles in the 400cc segment. It will make the bikes in India to market them as entry-level offerings for Triumph’s premium motorcycle range. Now, in a flash teaser video of this new bike, everything is shrouded but the tank and it does appear to be Speed Triple-like. It also gets the same Carnival Red and Phantom Black combination as the Speed 400 so it won’t be related to a recently spied Thruxton cafe racer-inspired design which was caught testing in overseas markets featuring an angular bikini fairing.
Even then, the bike does not give away a lot about what we can expect on September 17, 2024. The best guess is it won’t be the Thruxton 400, since there’s a headlight cover visible in the teaser. This suggests it could serve as a less expensive member of the Speed 400 family. With Royal Enfield leading the premium 300cc to 500cc single-cylinder motorcycle market, Triumph could be aiming to introduce a budget-friendly model. There have been increasing discounts on the Speed 400, hinting at a potential lower-cost variant to compete with Royal Enfield’s Guerrilla 450. The teaser also shows bar-end mirrors, which are unlikely to be standard equipment, further suggesting that some features may be scaled back compared to the original Speed 400.
Alternatively, the bike could be a sportier, accessorized version of the Speed 400. Regardless, this new Triumph 400cc model will share the same platform as the Speed 400, with nearly identical features and equipment. It will be powered by the same 398cc single-cylinder DOHC 4V liquid-cooled engine, producing 39.5 bhp and 37.5 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed gearbox.
