T20 World Cup Qualifier

T20 World Cup Qualifier : In a record breaking but unfortunate turn of events, Mongolia was bowled out for just 10 runs in their T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier match against Singapore, tying the record for the lowest total ever in men’s T20I cricket. This dismal performance saw Mongolia join the Isle of Man, who were also bowled out for 10 against Spain in 2023, in the unwanted record books.

Let’s have a look into more details: T20 World Cup Qualifier

Singapore’s Bowling Masterclass

The match, played at the YSD-UKM Cricket Oval in Bangi on September 5, 2024, witnessed a spectacular bowling display from Singapore. The star of the show was 17 year old leg spinner Harsha Bharadwaj, who ripped through Mongolia’s batting lineup with incredible figures of 6 wickets for just 3 runs in four overs, including two maidens. This performance ranks as the second-best in T20I history and left Mongolia in complete disarray.

Bharadwaj’s sensational spell was backed by fellow bowlers Akshay Puri, who took 2 for 4, and Rahul Sheshadri and Ramesh Kalimuthu, who claimed a wicket each. Mongolia’s innings lasted just 10 overs, with five of their batters being dismissed without scoring. Wicketkeeper batter Gandemberel Ganbold and Zoljavkhlan Shurentsetseg were the only players to contribute runs, with both scoring 2 each.

Joint Lowest Total in Men’s T20I History

Mongolia’s 10 run total equaled the record set by Isle of Man against Spain, marking the lowest score in men’s T20I history. It’s a significant blow for the Mongolian team, which has struggled throughout the tournament. This match marked their fourth consecutive defeat, further cementing their position at the bottom of the table.

Singapore’s Quick Chase

Chasing a mere 11 runs, Singapore wrapped up the match in just five balls, though not without a hiccup. Mongolia managed to dismiss Singapore captain Manpreet Singh for a golden duck, courtesy of a sharp delivery from Enkhbat Batkhuyag. However, Singapore’s William Simpson (6* off 2) and Raoul Sharma (7* off 2) made quick work of the target, sealing the win with a boundary and a six to finish the match.

A Day to Forget for Mongolia, but a Milestone for Singapore

This victory marked Singapore’s second win in the competition, while Mongolia’s struggles continued. As Mongolia reflects on their historic low, Singapore will look to build on this momentum as they eye further success in the T20 World Cup qualifiers. Harsha Bharadwaj’s bowling brilliance will remain a highlight, as the young spinner etched his name into T20I history with a performance for the ages.

Mongolia’s 10 run innings now stands as a cautionary tale in cricket history, showcasing the unpredictability and challenges teams can face on the global stage. For Singapore, the game will be remembered as a masterclass in bowling, and for Harsha Bharadwaj, a career defining performance at just 17.
