Kay Kay Menon, renowned for his intense performances, is set to captivate audiences once again in the upcoming series Murshid. Slated to release on August 30 on ZEE5, Murshid delves into the dark and dangerous underworld of Mumbai.

The show marks Menon’s return to the screen after his acclaimed performance in Shekhar Home, but this time, he takes on the role of a retired don who is reluctantly pulled back into a life he thought he had left behind. With a storyline brimming with tension, betrayal, and the complexities of family bonds, Murshid promises to be an unforgettable watch.

A Reluctant Return to the Underworld:

Murshid follows the life of Murshid Pathan, a former don who has traded his violent past for a peaceful existence. However, peace proves elusive when his former rival, Farid (played by Zakir Hussain), drags Murshid’s son into a perilous scheme. The trailer hints at the turbulent journey Murshid must undertake to protect his family, his legacy, and the life he has built outside the underworld. The tension is further amplified as Inspector Kumar Pratap Rana (Tanuj Virwani), who is also Murshid’s adopted son, begins to question Murshid’s past and his role in a tragic incident that changed his life forever.

Kay Kay Menon on Playing Murshid Pathan

Kay Kay Menon, known for his ability to portray complex characters with depth and authenticity, described his experience playing Murshid Pathan as “truly exciting.”

Menon shared, “I’ve always been drawn to complex characters, and Murshid is exactly that – a former don turned philanthropist, pulled back into the underworld to protect his family. The trailer just scratches the surface of his journey. It’s a relatable story of how far a father can go for the sake of his family.” This insight into Murshid’s character suggests a multi-layered portrayal that is sure to resonate with audiences, as Menon navigates the fine line between a loving father and a feared underworld figure.

Zakir Hussain’s Potent Antagonist

Zakir Hussain, who takes on the role of the antagonist Farid, brings a volatile energy to the series. Farid, once a rival of Murshid, is a man consumed by ambition and a desire to eclipse Murshid’s legacy in the underworld. Speaking about his character, Hussain said, “Farid is a powder keg of ambition and aggression, constantly pushing the boundaries of power in Mumbai’s underworld.”

“What fascinates me about Farid is his complex psyche – a man desperate to eclipse Murshid’s legacy yet undone by his own volatile nature. It’s a thrilling portrayal of a modern-day don, grappling with old-world respect and new-age ruthlessness.” Farid’s dynamic with Murshid is likely to be one of the series’ most gripping elements, as the two former adversaries clash once more in a battle of wits and power.

Conflicted Loyalties in the Police Force

Adding another layer of complexity to the narrative is Tanuj Virwani’s portrayal of Inspector Kumar Pratap Rana. Raised by Murshid Pathan after the loss of his parents, Kumar’s life is upended when he begins to suspect Murshid’s involvement in his tragic past.

Virwani, discussing his character, revealed, “Kumar Pratap Rana is a character caught in an emotional whirlwind. As a police inspector adopted and raised by Murshid Pathan after losing his parents, Kumar’s world is turned upside down when he suspects Murshid’s involvement in his tragic past. Yet, despite this turmoil, Kumar’s deep-rooted love for his adoptive father proves stronger than anything. It’s a story of conflicted loyalties and the enduring power of family bonds.” This emotional conflict is set to add a poignant depth to the series, as Kumar wrestles with his love for his adoptive father and his duty as a law enforcement officer.

Murshid is shaping up to be a must-watch series, blending intense action, emotional drama, and a powerful narrative. With Kay Kay Menon, Zakir Hussain, and Tanuj Virwani leading the cast, the series promises to deliver a compelling exploration of the Mumbai underworld, the bonds of family, and the lengths one will go to protect their legacy. Mark your calendars for August 30, as Murshid makes its highly anticipated debut on ZEE5.
