Waller-Bridge at the Helm: A Creative Force for Lara

Earlier in 2024, Prime Video announced a Tomb Raider series spearheaded by the talented Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Waller-Bridge, known for her critically acclaimed work on shows like Fleabag and Killing Eve, is attached to the project as writer and executive producer. This is exciting news for fans, hinting at a fresh and potentially witty take on the iconic tomb raider.

Production on Horizon: Gearing Up for 2025

Amazon MGM Studios television head Vernon Sanders recently offered an update on the series’ progress. Production is expected to begin in early 2025, with Sanders expressing enthusiasm about the project’s potential. While details remain under wraps, Sanders confirmed they have “great material” and are confident in Waller-Bridge’s vision.

The Casting Quest: Finding the Perfect Lara Croft

A crucial aspect of any Tomb Raider adaptation is Lara Croft herself. The casting process for this live-action version is yet to begin. Sanders revealed plans for a “global wide search” to find the actress who will embody the adventurous archaeologist. This international search signifies the importance of finding the right fit for a character with such a global fanbase.

A New Lara or a Familiar Face?

While details about the series’ specific storyline are scarce, speculation swirls around which Lara Croft viewers might encounter. Will it be a seasoned Lara in her prime, or a younger version closer to the character depicted in the recent reboot trilogy? Waller-Bridge and Prime Video haven’t shed light on this yet, keeping fans guessing.

Separate Paths: Tomb Raider Show and Video Game

Interestingly, Amazon has confirmed that the upcoming Tomb Raider game from Amazon Games will exist as a separate entity from the live-action series. This allows for creative freedom in both mediums, potentially offering fans a diverse range of Tomb Raider experiences.
