This latest generation of high-end Strix Halo “Ryzen” APU samples have been leaked by AMD that showed 8 cores and clock speeds up to 5.36 GHz. This news comes out of the Geekbench 5 database, showing an early engineering sample for the AMD Strix Halo series. We are currently focusing on the Ryzen AI 300 “Strix” lineup that is about to enter but we must not forget about AMD’s other big product, these beefier Strix Halo APUs which should offer some explosive options in terms of power.

The Upcoming AMD High-End Strix Halo ES APU

The Strix Halo APUs are anticipated to feature up to 16 Zen 5 cores and 40 RDNA 3.5 Compute Units, pushing the boundaries of laptop performance. Furthermore, the expected specifications will be a Zen 5 chipset design, up to 64 MB of a shared L3 cache, and 32 MBs specifically for the MALL cache for the integrated RDNA 3.5 GPU. The APUs will have a 256-bit LPDDR5X-8000 memory and integrate the XDNA 2 engine providing up to 60 AI TOPS. The platforms will deliver 16 PCIe Gen4 lanes and have a TDP range from 55W to 130W.

The leaked Strix Halo APU CPU has an OPN ID “100-000001422-31_N” has 8 cores and threads and is listed with a boost of 5.36 GHz. Geekbench logs indicate that the chip operated at core speeds between 3.4-4.8 GHz, suggesting that the highest clock speeds were not fully realized. Based on this, future retail chips could boost up to 5.4-5.5. This chip is rumored to feature a TDP of as much as 130W, well beyond that peak output for the company’s current Strix models at just 54 W.

The Halo APUs are going to have 32 MB of L3 cache and up to 64 MB solidarity, with a corresponding increase in memory. There will be 40 compute units on the integrated RDNA 3.5 GPU, and it’s designed to support up to 128 GB of memory as part of this platform The engineering sample achieved notable scores of up to 2177 in single-core and 13,993 in multi-core tests on Geekbench 5, outperforming the Ryzen 7 8845HS.

These advanced iGPUs are expected to enable designs without discrete GPUs, potentially lowering costs and improving efficiency. AMD is projected to unveil the Strix Halo “Ryzen” APUs by CES 2025, as the company will initially focus on the mainstream laptop market. Alongside these, a high-end Fire Range lineup based on the Zen 5 architecture is also expected around the same time.
